Talk by Bill Collar, London Transport Museum Tour Guide. “From Minding the Gate to Minding the Gap”.
The year 2023 marks the 160th anniversary of the opening of the London Underground Metropolitan line, the world`s first and most famous underground railway. The first underground journey was made between Paddington and Farringdon on the 10th of January 1863.
Many similarities remain since London`s Underground first opened but much has changed. How were passengers encouraged to use it and who declined? What's gravy got to do with it and when did it stop needing drivers? All this and more, and your questions answered.
The talk will be preceded by coffee/tea from 11.30 hrs and followed by a seated buffet lunch with wine at 13.00 hrs.
Cost £25 per head, applications on the form below by Tuesday the 4th of July please.
There will be a collection for the speaker's chosen charity.
To book your place, please email Dr S.D. Robinson at StephenRobinson_3@hotmail.com
