ChemCareers 2023 Mental Health and Careers: Disclosure and Reasonable adjustments for job seekers and employees

25 January 2023 12:30-13:30, United Kingdom

Introduction
Brought to you by the Å·ÃÀAV Careers team, the Global Inclusion team and funded by the Chemists’ Community Fund.

Mental health challenges can impact confidence and your ability to make career decisions, and can make applying for roles more daunting. That’s why we are running a five-part webinar series exploring topics related to mental health, job searching and career management. Our ChemCareers 2023 mental health and careers webinar series is open to and suitable for everyone, whether or not you have a mental health diagnosis, support others, or would like to learn about these topics. It’s your opportunity to discover valuable opinions and practical advice to build your confidence and knowledge around managing your career.

Disclosure and Reasonable adjustments for job seekers and employees is the second webinar in this series and our panel of experienced specialists will focus on reasonable adjustments for job seekers, employees and employers, as well as sharing or declaring a mental health diagnosis or condition.

Definitions:

Reasonable adjustments are changes that must be made to remove or reduce a disadvantage related to an employee's disability when doing their job, and a job applicant's disability when applying for a job. What’s 'reasonable' will depend on each situation and each person's needs in the environment. It is a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled employees and service users under the Equality Act 2010.

Disclosure is an individual decision used typically around sharing information with an individual or organisation related to a disability. For the purposes of this webinar we will use the word at times, but recognise that it is a debated term and some may prefer to think in terms of declaring or sharing information.

NB: Disability is a broad umbrella, covering any form of physical and/or mental difference that has a significant impact on a person’s daily life. This includes a wide spectrum of experiences including mental health conditions, chronic illnesses and other long-term health conditions, neurodivergence, sensory impairments, mobility impairments, and learning disability.

Live captions will be available along with BSL interpretation. If you have any questions, feedback, or access needs, then please contact the Careers team using the contact form at the bottom of this page. This webinar is open to everyone and a recording will be available after the live broadcast.
