Teacher mentoring training - via Zoom

12 May 2020 12:30-14:30, United Kingdom

This event is for ŷAV Members only

Introduction
This is a training session for teachers wanting to be a teacher mentor as part of our award-winning mentoring scheme. This scheme is open to any teacher who is a member of the ŷAV (any category of membership).

Why be a mentor?
Mentoring is valuable to both mentees and mentors. Mentors find the experience of helping another member rewarding as they help them to grow and 'address their own challenges, considering their relationships at work and thinking of the future'.

The benefits of mentoring
Join our scheme to help other members and:
  • gain experience of supporting others in achieving their personal and career goals
  • pursue personal and professional development
  • learn how to use new management and mentoring tools
  • improve relationships with colleagues and performance in your current role
  • give back to the chemical community
In order to become a mentor you will be asked to attend this 2-hour training session (delivered via Zoom) which will outline how our scheme works, and what our expectations are of you as a mentor, along with a discussion of skills and tools to utilise. You will also be provided with written resources and guidance. Mentoring is open to any career stage, but it is likely you will mentor a teacher who is in the early stages of their career.

“It was rewarding to know that my mentee now feels more able to teach A level Chemistry.” - current mentor

“Mentoring made me reflect on my own learning experiences and made me realise how much I had progressed.  It was great to share ideas with enthusiastic, young teacher who highly valued my many years of experience.” – current mentor
