Friday 8th March 2019 at the Bannatyne Hotel Darlington DL3 7HZ.
Å·ÃÀAV Teesside Local Section AGM followed by Lecture by Dr Rob Westaway, University of Glasgow, "Recent developments in the field of deep geothermal energy: a leading role for Darlington?", then buffet & social.
18:30 for 19:00 Arrival
19:00 to 19:30 AGM, Reports from Officers
19:30 to 20:15 Lecture + Q&As
20:15 Buffet and social.
We are looking to recruit new members for the committee especially any who feels they have the skills, time and motivation, if you have an interest then please contact the Chair of t committee Richard Langrick (crlangrick@sky.com).
Details of the Lecture: About 50% of UK energy demand is for heat, rather than for electricity or transport. The potential for geothermal energy supply, as part of future decarbonization, is particularly high in the north of England. Recent geothermal energy projects in this region, at Eastgate (Weardale) and in Newcastle upon Tyne, will be discussed, along with others that are planned, including at Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor, County Durham. Recent developments in geothermal technology will also be summarized; for one of these, Darlington is shown to be the town most suited for development, as a result of the high downward geothermal temperature gradient.
Parking at the Bannatyne hotel is rather limited but there is plenty of parking on Southend Avenue which lead to the hotel. The hotel is not accessible by car directly off the main road (B6280), people must access via Southend Avenue.
Physical tickets are not required on the night but ticketing for Å·ÃÀAV members and guests helps us with numbers to cater for.
