Smart Flow 2018

29 March 2018 08:00 - 30 March 2018 17:00, Webster/ Houston, United States

Introduction
CONTENT: Smart fluids and stimuli-responsive flow behavior is a departure from what has been conventionally utilized in industrial and process flow applications: the application of field and gradient effects result in an autonomic response. There is also a demand for high-performance fluids that can withstand extreme conditions and high cyclic stability. Such applications are found in oil & gas upstream applications, process control in refineries, development of commercial products such as lubricants, emulsion additives, and food processing. Flow process monitoring extends not only for highly viscoelastic fluids but also in multiphase and gas monitoring in refineries. This conference aims to augment basic knowledge for the participant and explore the forefront of new materials, chemical additives, flow process monitoring, and state-of-the-art analytical and characterization methods. In a two-day workshop, the aim is to build knowledge and foster a networking environment in a business-casual and relaxed atmosphere.

RELEVANCE: This conference is open to both the novice and the highly experienced researcher, engineer, and technical manager. It will be highly valued by technical and marketing managers in that the new knowledge on flow control, materials and methods is useful for everyday decision making and customer communication. For the researcher, it will connect real-world applications with basic technology platforms in fluids and flow control. The participant will learn the new developments in instrument technologies and the use of smart additives and formulations methods including nanomaterials.  On the other hand, it is also a training venue for learning the fundamentals of rheology, mixing technology, characterization techniques, sensor evaluation, etc.  in a relatively short time.

NETWORKING: The conference will be highly valued for the networking opportunities between experts and decision makers in R&D and marketing both in industry and academia. It will provide opportunities to meet with different companies and solution providers in materials, formulations, analytical methods, and project services.

This conference and workshop will cover:

1. Introduction to Flow and Process Chemistry
2. Rheology Basics and the Viscoelastic Behavior
3. Polymers and Surfactants in Rheology
