A Chemist's Walk Through Time and the Elements

Introduction
Elements’ can be interpreted in more ways than one, the lecture will examine historic thought, scientific discovery, economic growth and some thermodynamics,. The audience will be encouraged to engage in chemical, economic and ecological debate about “Our Common Future”.
The Lecturer: George Mills initially spent 13 years on chemicals manufacturing research and plant management, and dealing with hydrocarbon petrochemical supply and logistics planning and purchasing feed-stocks for a specialist refinery. For a further 22 years he managed a SME involving petrochemical trading and distribution, and at the same time spent some 10 years on various technical and executive committees. For two years he was Chairman of the UK Solvents Industry Association. He has become an authority on bulk liquid commodity chemicals trading, contracts, charter parties, bills of lading, letters of credit, inspections, storage, ADR transport, marketing, distribution, quality systems and chemical HSE, and hydrocarbon oil duties (HMRC). He is deeply involved in environmental affairs and was formerly Chairman of the Energy Institute’s West Midlands and Mid Wales Branch. For relaxation he enjoys gardening, beekeeping and the decorative and fine arts.
