XLII “A. CORBELLA” INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON ORGANIC SYNTHESIS - ISOS 2017

18 June 2017 18:00 - 23 June 2017 23:00, Gargano, Italy

Introduction
The International Summer School on Organic Synthesis “A. Corbella”  has a long tradition, which dates back to 1976. It is sponsored by the Division of Organic Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and organized under the direction of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Milan every year in June in Gargnano, a small village on Garda Lake. Since its foundation, the School has been held in “Palazzo Feltrinelli”, a XIX century villa overlooking the lake which belongs to the University of Milan and is equipped with teaching facilities for up to 150 participants. The School is mainly directed to Ph.D. students and young researchers coming both from University and Industry. It normally attracts close to 100 students, including the best graduate students from all the main Italian Universities. Fellowships covering inscription and including lunches and social dinner are available. A free  bus service to Gargnano will be organized, with stops at Milano railway central station, Milano Linate airport, Milano-Bergamo Orio al Serio airport.
The lectures span all synthetic aspects of modern Organic Chemistry and related topics, such as separation and characterization techniques or properties of organic compounds.
Every year the school program is organized in five or six topics, focused on both established and emerging areas of research at the cutting-edge of organic chemistry. The 2017 edition will include lectures on molecular recognition, biocatalysis, total synthesis, small molecules activation, analytical and synthetic biological tools in organic synthesis, stereoselective synthesis in the Industry (lectures delivered by two speakers from two international companies). Additionally, four young researchers will present keynote lectures focused on different topics, including supramolecular chemistry, enzymes in organic synthesis, synthesis of natural products, multicomponent reactions.
Besides lessons delivered by acclaimed scientists from academia and industry, other activities take place at the School:
Oral Communications: all students in their final year of PhD have the possibility to briefly present their research in an oral communication during lively open sessions, in line with the main aim of the school to offer broad opportunities to young researchers for discussing their results and exchanging views with the leading experts in the field.
Poster sessions and several informal meetings among the attendees and the speakers throughout the five-day programme.
A problem session in one afternoon, and correction/discussion in the evening, with all participants organized in teams, in a  competition, where the winning team is awarded. Additional activities will include two special sessions:
a round table on Ethics and Publishing
a special lecture about Marie Sklodowska Curie.
“A. Corbella” School, still the most popular for young organic chemists in Italy, has become a truly European school, a unique venue and opportunity to meet present and future colleagues, young chemists of all over Europe and not European countries, from academia and companies.
