About the work experience placements
Are you passionate about Chemistry? Would you like to work in a research laboratory, alongside professional scientists and engineers? Do you want to enhance your CV with professional experience?The School of Science and Engineering at Teesside University is offering a three-week work experience program in Chemistry for Year 12 students beginning their final year of A level or BTEC study in September 2016. The work placements are aimed at students with an interest in pursuing a career in Chemistry. The students will have the opportunity to work with a scientist in a research laboratory at Teesside University during the summer holidays.
The placement will take place from the 11th to the 29th of July 2016 in the research laboratories at Teesside University (Middlesbrough, TS1 3BA, UK). The students are expected to be in the laboratory from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
Research Project
During this work experience, the students will develop a research project in the topic of artificial photosynthesis. Artificial photosynthesis is a research area that investigates new catalysts capable of producing a fuel from water, carbon dioxide and sunlight; mimicking the natural photosynthesis carried out by plants. During this project, the students will synthesise various catalysts for hydrogen production from water, and they will study their properties using different spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques.Eligibility criteria:
- Be in your first year of post-16 studies (Year 12 or equivalent).- Study Chemistry in the A-levels (or equivalent).
- Be available during the whole period of the summer school (11th-29th July 2016, from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm).

The work experience programme is a free-of-charge event for Year 12 students. The application form should be sent by email to Dr Anna Reynal (a.reynal@tees.ac.uk) before the 31st of May.
