Extending the global reach of UK universities - policy priorities, cross-border quality assurance and the future for transnational education projects

25 February 2016 08:30-13:00, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
Guests of Honour: Dr Fabrizio Trifiro, Manager, International, Quality Assurance Agency and Brian Johnson, Head, International Higher Education, Department for Business, Innovation & Skills

Delegates at this seminar will explore next steps for policy to support UK universities in the expansion of their overseas activity - including franchise agreements, branch campuses in emerging markets, and strategies for taking a global lead in online learning.

The seminar has been scheduled to follow the culmination of the QACHE (Quality Assurance of Cross-border Higher Education) project - due to present to the European Commission early this year - which will include recommendations for how quality assurance agencies and higher education institutions should address the challenge of monitoring quality of HE delivered in other nations.

Planned sessions also consider further issues for supporting further expansion of transnational education (TNE) by UK universities - including legal, financial and structural barriers, and challenges to be addressed; next steps for managing quality assurance of TNE as well as the opportunities presented by a growing market for online learning - and assess the impact of the International Education Strategy, launched by the Coalition government.
