LC Separations for Biopharmaceuticals

12 May 2015, Nottingham, United Kingdom

Introduction
LC Separations for Biopharmaceuticals (1 day)

A one day course covering the essentials of high performance liquid chromatography in relation to the separation of biopharmaceuticals

Who should take this course?

If you are a biochemist or biologist with limited experience using HPLC, this one day course will acquaint you with techniques for analysis and lab-scale purification of biomolecules. If you are an analytical chemist with experience in the use of HPLC separations for small molecules, this course will help you apply these techniques to peptides, proteins and nucleic acids.

What does it cover?

The focus of this course is on the practical aspects of using high performance separation techniques for biomolecules, with an emphasis on proteins and peptides. In this course you will learn:

• Fundamentals of HPLC mechanisms of band broadening for large molecules
• Column and mobile phase selection for reversed-phase, ion-exchange, size exclusion, hydrophobic interaction and affinity chromatography
• Strategies for developing and optimising HPLC methods
• HPLC column maintenance and troubleshooting

What will I get from this course?

You will learn how to choose the appropriate separation technique for your application and how to select the best chromatographic separation mode to meet your separation goals. You will learn how to develop and optimise an LC method and how to troubleshoot it when problems occur. You will learn how to handle columns to achieve good performance and satisfactory lifetime.

Course Outline

Separation basics
Reversed-phase chromatography
Ion-exchange chromatography
Normal-phase chromatography
Size exclusion chromatography
Hydrophobic interaction Chromatography
Affinity chromatography

Note: For those looking for a course on “bioanalysis” or “bioanalytical LC” (the analysis of drugs in biological matrices, such as determining the pharmacokinetic behaviour of a drug by measuring its concentrations in plasma) we recommend our LC-MS for Chromatographers course.

Cost is £195 plus vat
