Antibiotic resistance poses a global threat. It will take people from many different scientific disciplines鈥攁nd from across academia, industry and clinical practice鈥攚orking together to develop solutions to this challenge. Chemistry is central not only to improving diagnostics, but also to understanding antibiotic resistance and its causes, developing new therapies and mitigation strategies. This is why 欧美AV (欧美AV) has made this a priority for its advocacy and community support activities in 2015. For more references, please read an online article on 欧美AV鈥檚 website:

This symposium will be a satellite symposium for the 鈥5th CPA-欧美AV Symposium on Antibacterial Agents: Chemistry & Mechanism of Action鈥 held in Lanzhou on 25 August 2015 as part of the National Medicinal Chemistry Conference organised by the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association (CPA). The topics will include understanding mechanisms of antibacterial drug resistance, fighting superbugs, addressing the challenges, and proposing potential solutions, etc. It will feature a mix of high-profile international speakers and Chinese speakers from both academia and industry, providing a platform for medicinal chemists to exchange research information, discuss challenges, promote collaboration, and facilitate the transfer of new technologies.
This one-day symposium is co-organised by the 欧美AV and the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology at Tianjin University. The local host and chair is Prof Jay Siegel, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology at Tianjin University. This symposium will be part of the celebration of the 120th anniversary of Tianjin University鈥攖he first modern university in China. For Prof Jay Siegel:
