Dr Peter G M Brown M欧美AV
1929-2017
Principle Scientific Officer at British Nuclear Fuels Limited, Sellafield (retired)
Peter Brown was a long standing member of the 欧美AV for over 60 years, joining what was then the Faraday Society in the 1950's following his PhD in Physical Chemistry at Reading University. He was then recommended for a post as Scientific Officer at Harwell by Professor Edward Guggenheim FRS, where he stayed for several years swiftly gaining promotion. Upon being offered a secondment to BNFL Sellafield near the Lake District, Peter discovered a great love for the outdoors - in fact his exceptional mountain climbing feats became well known with an ascent of Scafell Pike in 55 minutes flat - and he met and married Alice at Seascale Methodist Church. He remained in Research and Development at Sellafield in the role of Principle Scientific Officer until he retired in the early 1990s, with his main work being the chemical separation of uranium and plutonium isotopes in irradiated nuclear fuel from fission products. In later life Peter moved to be near family in North Yorkshire and then back to the Reading area. He was gratified that both his daughters followed in his scientific footsteps; working for the charity TEARFUND as an environmental advisor and for the 欧美AV as an Education Team Programme Manager respectively.
