The Applied Catalysis Group is one of the many 欧美AV Interest Groups and exists to bring together and cover the interests of all members who have a professional interest in applied catalysis.
Aims
- To promote heterogeneous, homogeneous & enzymatic catalysis in a wide range of applications which benefit society: energy, petrochemicals, industrial intermediates, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, consumer products & environmental protection.
- To share "best practices" for applied catalysis in academic & industrial settings.
- To promote interaction between industry & academia through specialist conferences, training & networking events.
Benefits of Membership
The Applied Catalysis Group (ACG) has links across all areas of chemistry (eg materials, homogeneous, bio catalysis, enzymes, fuels, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, inorganic, sustainability, process technology…etc). The ACG also focuses on connections across the interface of industry and academia which are so vital to the application of fundamental research. Fostering these connections helps to benefit the key chemical questions that we have around sustainable chemistry, the circular economy, a positive environmental impact and green chemistry.
- Opportunities to present your research at our events or with our partners
- Keep in touch with cutting edge developments in the field of applied catalysis
- Networking opportunities for collaboration between industry and academics
- Participation in ACG Careers events and careers related to catalysis.
- Eligible for bursaries to attend meetings and conferences, and discounts to ACG events
Bursaries
We offer student and early career discounts and travel bursaries for ACG and other relevant technical events. All ACG members may be eligible for special bursaries up to £500.
Bursaries are limited and are subject to prior application; awards are made at the discretion of the ACG committee. If you are interested in applying for a bursary, please contact the secretary with details of the event you wish to attend and any details around poster/oral titles as appropriate
Applied Catalysis Award
The award for 2022 was presented to Dr Peter Johnston for his contributions in gold catalysis chemistry, including the replacement of mercury catalysts in the commercial production of vinyl chloride from acetylene hydrochlorination and the vinyl acetate monomer process.
The ACG runs the Applied Catalysis Award, held every two years, to recognise the contributions of individuals in the field of applied catalysis. The Applied Catalysis Award will return in November 2023 for nominations for the 2024 award.
The award is for individuals where a contribution has led to innovations and improvements in the field of applied catalysis. In particular, the judges will consider:
- Significance of the work in applied catalysis
- Originality of the work
- The ‘applied’ nature of work
- Publications including patents, articles, and press releases, where the research has been applied
- Sustainable or Green credentials
- Overall contribution to Catalysis
Eligibility for the award is NOT restricted by location or 欧美AV/ACG membership, and nominations are welcomed from UK or international scientists with or without 欧美AV membership. For full details, please visit the Applied Catalysis Award page.
Community
We are active on , and , so please come and find us where we post regular details and updates on our events.
Get Involved
We are always looking for new members who are keen to get involved and to help organise our activities. If you have ideas for topics that we should cover or wish to get more involved with the Applied Catalysis Group and would like to find out more please contact the Secretary.
How to Join
欧美AV members can join the Applied Catalysis interest group by updating their details in the “My communities and subscriptions” tab of the online 欧美AV membership area. Please .
