Bunsen-Tagung: High-Resolution Structural Methods in Material and Life Sciences
Submissions open:
Open for submissions now
Deadline:
31 January 2025
Guest Editor(s):
Sarah Köster (Georg-August-University Göttingen), Melanie Schnell (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron), Walter Richtering (RWTH Aachen University) and Dominik Wöll (RWTH Aachen University)
This themed collection is devoted to the 123rd Bunsen-Tagung meeting which took place from 25 - 27 March 2024 in Aachen, Germany, in collaboration with the Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft für Physikalische Chemie (DBG), one of the Owner Societies of PCCP. The focus of this annual meeting of the Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry is on the High-Resolution Structural Methods in Material and Life Sciences. The DBG and the organizing committee of this year’s Bunsen-Tagung are pleased to invite contributions describing recent research in physical chemistry either to the main topic of high-resolution structural methods in material and life sciences or to the general topic of Physical Chemistry. Contributions covering fundamental or applied, experimental or theoretical work (and all combinations) are all highly appreciated.
Festschrift for Christel Marian: The role of electron spin in molecular photochemical and photophysical processes: Theory and experiment

Prof. Dr Shirin Faraji (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf), Prof. Dr Andreas Dreuw (University of Heidelberg), Prof. Dr Bernd Engels (University of Würzburg), Dr Martin Kleinschmidt (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf).
The themed collection ‘Festschrift for Christel Marian: The role of electron spin in molecular photochemical and photophysical processes: Theory and experiment’ brings together a broad range of studies, including both recent methodological developments and novel applications. The development and application of predictive, accurate, and at the same time, computationally efficient theoretical approaches to describe complex problems in photochemistry and photophysics is an active field in contemporary theoretical and computational chemistry. The focus of this Festschrift is thus dedicated to recent developments of (i) quantum mechanical methods for excited electronic state properties (e.g. energies, gradients, non-adiabatic, spin-spin, and spin-orbit couplings), (ii) theoretical strategies to study excited-state dynamics ranging from full-dimensional semiclassical on-the-fly dynamics to full quantum dynamics in reduced dimensionality, (iii) embedding methods to describe excited-state processes complex environments, as well as (iv) experimental and theoretical studies on a wide range of applications, e.g. excited-state processes and quantum effects in biological systems, organic light emitting diodes, metal organic frameworks, and renewable energy devices.
The special issue further welcomes invited submissions that are within the general scope of the PCCP and encourages potential contributors to contact the PCCP Editorial Office regarding the suitability of manuscripts for the Festschrift.
