Å·ÃÀAV BMCS & AgriNet Agriscience Symposium: Biological and Chemical Approaches Towards Combating Resistance in Agriculture

26 September 2013, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
As a consequence of the growing world population and its changing dietary requirements, modern agriculture is facing an ever increasing challenge to maintain and increase food production. At the same time, growing resistance problems towards some agrochemicals are resulting in serious crop damage and the loss of important compounds to the farmer. If ignored, resistance will significantly reduce worldwide agricultural output at a time when yields need to be increasing. Biological research has a key role to play in addressing the resistance challenge by helping to understand resistance mechanisms and to identify new modes of action unaffected by resistance. Chemical research has an equally important role to play in terms of synthesizing new molecules which either overcome resistance problems in existing targets or have novel modes of action.
The objective of the conference is to showcase some of the recent scientific advances relevant to understanding and combating resistance and to promote scientific interactions between researchers in this field. The speakers will include leading experts in resistance research from both academia and industry.
