The Schools Analyst Competition is a national competition run by the Å·ÃÀAV’s Analytical Division for Year 12s. The competition has two stages: regional heats and a national final, where up to 16 regional heat winners compete for the Challenge Shield and significant cash prizes for themselves and their schools.
A regional heat for this competition will be held at the School of Chemistry, the University of Nottingham, on Tuesday 14th January 2020. This will run from 1:30pm-5pm, where teams of 3 students will be required to undertake some practical analytical exercises based on problems relevant to industrial or social needs. Most of the tasks will be linked to the A-level curriculum, using equipment and concepts familiar to the students such as titrations. Some tasks will use techniques and equipment not available in most schools, such as spectroscopy. It is designed to be both fun and curriculum linked.
Please note we can accommodate 16 teams and places are allocated on a first-come-first served basis. Due to ever increasing demand, we are initially limiting entries to 1 team per school. If we have places remaining at Autumn Half Term, all entered schools will be invited to submit additional teams.
If the team is not accompanied by a teacher/ technician then emergency contact details must be provided.
