The Association of Public Analysts is holding its annual conference in Newcastle upon Tyne on the 29-30th October 2009.
Public Analysts carry out chemical and microbiological testing of foods in laboratories throught the UK on behalf of the consumer. Members of the Association will be joined by delegates from the Food Standards Agency, Laboratory of the Government Chemist and Central Scientific Laboratories.
The theme is "Spice, Ice and Rice" and centres around food safety and authenticity with particular reference to irradiation of spices, quality of bottled waters and adulteration of speciality rice. There will also be a presentation by the President on the history of food preservation. Guest speakers include Roger Wood from the Food Standards Agency and Michael Walker from the Laboratory of the Government Chemist and a special presentation from Werner Nader from Hamburg who will speak on DNA testing of rice.
