A one-day no-charge meeting of the Å·ÃÀAV Historical Group (Å·ÃÀAVHG) covering both historical and contemporary aspects of the law/chemistry interface. In particular, we will consider food and its adulteration, pharmaceuticals, drugs and poisons. There will be seven speakers, all experts in the topics covered in the meeting. In the morning we will consider historical aspects, such as chemists appearing in court as expert witnesses (e.g. Michael Faraday; Robert Angus Smith; various poisonings and murder cases) and food, drink and drugs adulteration. In the afternoon we will consider the more modern aspects of the interface: the collection of forensic evidence, the chemists' role in developing forensic science methodologies and the presentation of forensic evidence in court.
