Transitions - Chemistry from 8 to 18 and beyond

4 July 2017 09:30-16:30, Birmingham, United Kingdom

Introduction
This is the 3rd national Secondary and Further Education (SaFE) conference this time in the school of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham.
There are three broad themes running through this conference.
- transitions between KS2 and KS3
- effective use of practicals leading up to GCSE
- effective use of ICT
In particular the conference will look at:
- problems that students and teachers face when making the quantum leap from KS2 to KS3.
- the new GCSE practicals and the challenges faced by teachers and students.
- suggested GCSE practical procedures in miniature.
- removing the recipe approach - making practical work more effective.
- the effective use of lesson starters - demonstrations using everyday chemicals.
- the use of ICT in enhancing the teaching, learning and assessment of chemistry.
A Å·ÃÀAV education co-ordinator will be talking about her role in promoting school based chemistry.
Various displays covering a wide range of topics will be in the Foyer.
Opportunities for networking over the breaks and lunch will be available.

As parking is limited at the University it is recommended that delegates use the train, the railway station at Birmingham University is very close to the venue.
